Paddar is a small subdivision of Kishtwar District. Famous for its renowned Sapphire Mines and Holy Machail Yatra, this region is also a major potential tourist attraction in the area. Every community that is Muslim, Hindu and Buddhist peacefully coexist in Paddar. Tatta Pani is the place where hot water gushes out.   • Paddar subdivision has two Tehsils viz. Atholi & Machail.
  • It is bounded by Pangi on the East, Nagseni on the West, Zanskar on the North and Bhalesa on the South.
  • Mighty river Chenab flows through Paddar region.

  • Paddar was added to the territory of Maharaja Gulab Singh by Zorawar Singh in the spring of 1836 AD.
  • A fort was constructed by Zorawar Singh Kalhuria at Chishoti village of Paddar in 1838 AD.
  • Chattergarh was renamed Gulabgarh in 1838 AD by the Dogra General.
  • Paddar was made Tehsil in 1845 AD by the Dogra Administration.
  • After Independence, status of Paddar was reduced from Tehsil to Block in 1963 AD.
  • Primary School was opened for the first time at Tatta Pani Village in Paddar region in 1900 AD by Maharaja Partap Singh.
  • High School Atholi was raised to the status of Higher Secondary School in 1986 AD.
  • There were only two schools in Paddar in 1950 AD.
  • HSS Atholi that you know today was first a primary school opened in Kundal Paddar in 1920 AD then raised to HS Atholi in 1966 AD.
  • BVM Affani was the first Private School opened in Paddar in 1989.
  • There are now 82 Schools in Paddar out of which 6 are private schools and rest are Govt. Schools.
  • There is one College, one ITI and two higher secondary schools in Paddar.
